Digipak Analysis

Gabrielle Aplin - English Rain

What's bad?:

The font of the album title and tracklist is quite difficult to read.

What's good?:

The use of colour against the black and white backgoutn is really effective and makes Gabrielle stand out well.

The CD art is the umbrella which is the same colours on the album cover.

The same colours are used throughout the whole digipak.

The use of colour and image:

The album cover has quite an old fashioned feel to it because of the black and white colour theme,a typical convention of old times.

The image of Gabrielle is in the centre of the album cover, making sure that she is the main focus, also the background is quite plain which makes her stand out even more. Gabrielle also stands out as the image of her is in colour compared to the rest of the album cover which is black and white.

The Use of Language:

The album is called 'English Rain'.

The 'persuasive' factor:

What ideas i have gained:

I think that i could include the artist on the main album cover , but make sure that she stands out from the rest of the background, like this digipak as that is very effective.

How it represents the artist/ the artist's music:

The album shows common conventions of folk music, which is the long shot of the artist and the rural setting. She is also holding an umbrella over herself which creates an impression of her being shy, which is a convnetion for folk singers.

Lana Del Ray - Born To Die

How it represents the artist/ the artist's music:

The outdoor colour scheme on the album cover and the worn down retro look on the lyric book represents the indie music genre.

What ideas i have gained:

To change the colour scheme throughout the digipak to represent a journey or emotions.

What's good?:

The artist being the main centre of the album cover and fold out. The colour scheme change due to the artist's journey.

The use of colour and image:

The colours that are used on this digipak are very fresh and young colours and these represent her younger target audience. The background is the outdoors and this is another convention of the indie genre of music. However the colour scheme changes when it gets to the back of the album where the track list is, the colours here are very bold compared to the fresh colours on the front cover, this new colour scheme could represent the strong emotions that are heard throughout her song lyrics.

The album cover has a medim  close up shot of Lana Del ray herself which is a convention of indie music. Also the background is quite plain so this means the audience will focus on Lana Del Ray the most.

The use of roses on the CD creates the connotation of love which again links to the emotions in her songs. The roses are placed on a white background, this could represent innocent love, because purity is a connotation of the colour white.

In the lyric fold out the colour  theme is a worn down retro look which represents the indie genre again. There is blood on the fold out and this could link back to the bold colour scheme you see on the back of the album cover. The blood could also signify that the Lana's love has been destroyed or she could of encountered on quite an emotional and painful journey.
